Tempers flare on CP picket line on McPhillips Street

Tempers flared on the Canadian Pacific Railway picket line on McPhillips Street this morning after two vehicles allegedly pushed their way through a throng of strikers.
There are 286 union members on strike in Winnipeg. The CP diesel shop is located on McPhillips Street and Jarvis Avenue, across the street from the McPhillips Street Station casino.
"One of my brothers was bruised on the elbow," said Lorne Ozuk, president of Teamsters Canada Rail division 76 local president. "One was a cab trying to get into the casino and another was a car trying to get out. They just didn’t want to stop."
Strikers took down licence plates and called Winnipeg police.
The Canadian Pacific Railway strike began last night at 12:01 a.m. Canadian Pacific has suspended rail freight service across the country but commuter trains in several large cities that use CP track continue to operate amid a strike by some 4,500 engineers, conductors and others.
