Tenants escape fire on Edmonton Street

All tenants in an Edmonton Street apartment building got out safely after a fire broke out in the ceiling of one suite today.
Acting fire battalion chied Don Shellrude said there were no injuries and no cause has been determined.
Shellrude said it is a tough fire to attack because it is between the ceiling and the roof of the building.
"There is four to five inches of tar in the old building and when it gets hot it melts and it can drip elsewhere and start another fire," he said.
Michael Potts said he, Allie Sibley and six-month-old Connor got out after a neighbour knocked on their door.
"We didn't smell anything," he said, but said when they looked outside they saw smoke billowing from above.
Shellrude said he doubted any of the tenants would be allowed to return to their suites today.
