Fontaines latest donation 'means a great deal'

Christmas may have come and gone, but the giving spirit of a Manitoba couple is still going strong.
Following their record $50,000 donation to the Christmas Cheer Board Thursday, Kirby and Marie Fontaine continued to spread their 2009 lottery winnings among a number of Winnipeg charities.
The Fontaines, who hit a $50-million Lotto MAX jackpot in 2009, followed up their surprise visit to the Cheer Board with stops at the Siloam Mission homeless shelter and the Winnipeg Harvest food bank, donating $50,000 to each.
Duncan Stokes, communications and development associate with Winnipeg Harvest, said the gift was a pleasant surprise.
"It was certainly unexpected and very welcome," he said. "It means a great deal to us."
Stokes said the Fontaines’ donation reinforced the province’s reputation of generosity.
"We’re thrilled that the Fontaines exemplified the giving spirit that so many Manitobans possess," he said. "This time of year, or any time of year."
Today, the couple from Sagkeeng First Nation reportedly gave another $50,000 to both Rossbrook House and the Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg.
