Thompson artist wins HBC People's Choice Award

WINNIPEG — Prominent Thompson artist Teresa Burrows has won the HBC People's Choice Award in this year's Manitoba Rural and Northern Art Show.

Her piece Caribou Women: The Sun Staff has been chosen from more than 90 works by visitors attending the Winnipeg exhibition.

The seventh annual rural and northern show, sponsored by the Manitoba Arts Network, has been on view on the sixth floor of the Bay downtown since early July. It closes Sunday afternoon.

The British-born Burrows, 47, has been a prominent member of the Manitoba arts scene for many years. She served on the Manitoba Arts Council from 2000 to 2005.

Her works are in private collections in Canada, England, Australia and Cuba.

Management of the Bay has been donating in the corridor leading to the Paddlewheel restaurant to visual arts groups wanting exhibition space.

In June the Manitoba Society of Artists held its annual juried exhibition there. The top prize went to Winnipeg artist Klara Piko.
