Three Manitobans picked for women's under-22 national hockey team

Manitobans Brigitte Lacquette of Waterhen, Christine Bestland of Brunkild and Jenelle Kohanchuk of Winnipeg have been selected for Canada's national women's under-22/development team to play in the 2013 Meco Cup on Jan. 2-6, 2013 at Buchloe, Füssen and Ravensburg, Germany.

Lacquette, who plays defence, and forwards Bestland and Kohanchuk are among 22 players selected by Hockey Canada to for the Meco Cup which was formerly known as the MLP Cup and Air Canada Cup.

The tournament includes Canada’s under-22/development team as well as senior women’s national teams from Germany, Finland, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland for a five-day international tournament every year.

Canada is an eight-time gold medallist at the Meco Cup, winning gold in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. Canada finished with the bronze medal at the 2012 Meco Cup.
