3 at Free Press nominated for National Newspaper Awards

Three journalists at the Winnipeg Free Press have been nominated for National Newspaper Awards.

Reporter Mary Agnes Welch is nominated in the Beat category for her work in public policy.

Reporter Melissa Martin is nominated in the Long Feature category for her story on the disappearing Metis language.

Editorial writer Catherine Mitchell earned a nomination in the editorial category.

The National Newspaper Awards office in Toronto announced this morning a total of 72 finalists in 22 categories.

The winners will be announced May 13 at an awards ceremony at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. Winners will receive cheques for $1,000 and a certificate of award. Runners-up receive citations of merit.
