Three teens in custody after Transcona crime spree

Police have three male youths in custody following a crime spree through Transcona late Wednesday.

The tour of illegal activity started at approximately 11:30 p.m., police determined, when the suspects forced their way into a detached garage in the 400 block of Winona Street. The trio was scared off and fled the scene empty-handed. Damage to the garage is estimated at $1,000.

A short while later, the group broke into a Ford F-150 parked in the 200 block of Yale Avenue West. An undisclosed amount of money was taken and the youths continued on.

At around 1:15 a.m., the three broke into a detached garage located in the 200 block of Whittier Avenue West. Once again, they were scared off and fled the scene.

Minutes later, the three tried to rob a 28-year-old man of his bike in the area of Bond Street and Kildare Avenue West. At this point, police and the canine unit tracked the males and eventually found them hiding in backyards in the 100 block of Edward Avenue West.

Two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old are facing numerous robbery, theft and assault-related charges.
