Thunderstorm rolling in today, but weekend looks divine

WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg skies are starting to darken this morning as heat and humidity crank up a possible thunderstorm today.

Environment Canada is forecasting thundershowers across southern Manitoba, including the city. The rain could continue through the night, but skies will begin to clear early Friday morning, paving the way for another hot, sunny day.

The high today is 30 C, while the mercury tops out at 32 C on Friday.

For Saturday and Sunday, expect nothing but sunshine and temperatures at or above 30 C.

Just how hot was it Wednesday across the province? Well, get this. Way up in Churchill, the temperature topped out at 31.8 C, shattering a nearly 50-year-old record for the warmest July 11 ever in the polar bear capital of the world.

In all, the blistering heat set more than a dozen temperature records in Manitoba for July 11.
