  • Print

A tow truck driver died of injuries presumably sustained while trying to help a vehicle stranded by the side of the Trans-Canada Highway west of Portage la Prairie, say RCMP.

Portage la Prairie RCMP were called about 3 a.m. Monday morning to the scene near Road 70 West, close to Sidney.

Sidney is located approximately 150 kilometres west of Winnipeg, near Spruce Wood Provincial Park.

RCMP say an initial investigation shows the tow truck driver, 39, was fatally injured trying to answer a call for a stranded vehicle. The RCMP did not offer any further details on how the death occurred. They said Workplace Safety and Health is also investigating the death.

An autopsy was ordered today.
