Traffic stop leads to pot bust

Police arrested two people Wednesday after finding half a pound of marijuana in a van on Highway 11.

Powerview RCMP discovered the drugs on Aug. 29 about 9:30 p.m. when they pulled over a 2003 Ford Windstar on Highway 11 in the Rural Municipality of Alexander.

Police made the stop as part of an ongoing investigation and discovered about a half pound of marijuana worth $3,800, police said.

The two people in the van –a 36-year-old woman and 38-year-old man from Fort Alexander – were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. They were both released and will appear in Pine Falls Provincial Court on Oct. 24.
