Transit won't take pennies, bills as of Feb. 1

Winnipeg Transit will stop accepting pennies and bills on Feb. 1.

Next month, transit will start to phase-in its new collection system which will replace manual fare boxes with electronic ones which will not accept pennies or paper banknotes. The new boxes will accept bus tickets, and will also be able to issue paper transfers.

In February, a Blue Loonie will be worth one dollar off any cash fare on regular buses or Handi-Transit service. The loonies are available at participating Downtown BIZ merchants.
