Trial begins in case of 12-year-old beaten to death

A jury trial is underway in Winnipeg for a man accused of beating a 12-year-old boy to death with a baseball bat.

Tennessee Waylon Weedmark, 21, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter at the start of his case Wednesday morning.

Albert James Goosehead III died of blunt force trauma after a June 2009 attack on Bloodvein First Nation, a community of 1,060 people located approximately 190 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

RCMP found the victim’s body inside a home on the reserve. The trial is expected to last three weeks.
