Passenger stabs city cab driver

A 53-year-old male cab driver is in stable condition in hospital after a passenger stabbed him early today. Two suspects were arrested in the area a short time later, police report.

The cab driver was parked in the area of William Avenue and Isabel Street about 3 a.m. when a female entered his cab. A short time later a male, known to the female, also entered the cab. The male produced a knife and stabbed the driver. Both passengers then fled on foot, police said.

The driver drove off and was able to flag down members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

An 18-year-old man and 24-year-old woman are facing several charges, including assault with a weapon. Two knives were recovered, police said.
