Two arrested after string of liquor store robberies

  • Print

Two teens have been arrested after a rash of shoplifting at Winnipeg liquor stores.

In all, police say the young men committed 16 separate thefts and robberies, one dating back to April but most occurring over the last month. Top targets included the Liquor Mart at Main Street and Pritchard Avenue, which was robbed six times, and the Liquor Mart on Portage Avenue in the West End, which was robbed four times.

Winnipeg Police Const. Eric Hofley said the thefts involved liquor instead of cash, and most cases didn’t involve any threats to staff.

On Friday, Winnipeg police arrested two men, ages 17 and 18, and charged them with numerous robbery, theft and weapons offenses. Both are in custody.
