Police arrest two men after high-speed chase through Maples

Two men face numerous charges after they led police on a high-speed chase through the Maples.

On Saturday, officers stopped a Ford Escort at Jefferson Avenue and Sheppard Street just before 2 p.m. The vehicle initially complied, but then suddenly fled from police.

Police said the chase reached speeds of 80 km/h and officers stopped their pursuit because of the vehicle's disregard for safety. About 10 minutes later, two men abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot at Marlow Court and Mapleglen Drive.

Police arrested two men who were both in possession of a quantity of prescription drugs and other drug paraphernalia.

A 29-year-old man is facing charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from a police officer, breach of probation, driving while disqualified and two counts of possessing a substance for the purpose of trafficking.

A 37-year-old man is charged with two counts of possessing a substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Police said the vehicle was a rental car and had not been stolen.

There were no injuries and no property damage caused by in the incident.
