Two teens in hospital after stabbings

A 16-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after he was repeatedly stabbed early this morning.

Winnipeg Police said the attack occurred on Alexander Avenue near Isabel Street at about 12:40 a.m.

The 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old friend were confronted by two other teenage boys, who suspected them of belonging to a rival street gang.

One of the attackers then repeatedly stabbed the 16-year-old and his friend was beaten and knocked to the ground.

The attackers fled into a nearby residence, where police arrested both a short time later.

Police said that while the attackers are associated with a street gang, there is no indication that the victims are gang members.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated assault and a 16-year-old boy has been charged with assault. Both are being held in custody.
