Two female youths were rushed to hospital Tuesday afternoon after after being struck by a vehicle near St. Annes Road and Bishop Grandin Boulevard.

Both youths were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, although the condition of one of the youths has since been upgraded.

The accident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Louis Riel School Division superintendent Duane Brothers confirmed both girls involved in the accident are students in the division.

Brothers didn’t elaborate on their condition or what school they attended.

"The two students are currently under medical attention at a Winnipeg hospital," Brothers said in a statement issued late Tuesday afternoon. "At this time our primary concern is for these students and their families.

"These students were well known by their peers and staff at their school and we will continue to have members of the Clinical Student Services Team in the school to support students and staff during this challenging time.

"Once again, our hearts and our prayers are with these students and their families."

Eastbound and westbound Bishop Grandin was closed between Dakota Street and Lakewood Boulevard at the time of the accident, along with northbound and southbound St. Anne’s Road between Meadowood Drive and Lavalee Road. All roads have since been reopened.
