Two sheriffs face additional charges in alleged sex assaults

Two Manitoba sheriff’s officers face additional charges of forcible confinement and sexual assault following a lengthy police investigation.

Winnipeg police said Richard Gordon, 45, and Jackie Burgoyne, 34, were arrested and charged Wednesday.

The investigation began in November, days after Gordon and Burgoyne were each charged with allegedly drugging, confining and sexually assaulting a 30-year-old woman.

The October charges involve an alleged attack that occurred April 27-28 of last year.

Winnipeg police said three new victims came forward in November making similar allegations: they were invited back to Gordon and Burgoyne’s residence where they were overcome with a "stupefying substance," forcibly confined and sexually assaulted.

Police said the three victims are women.

Police said the new charges date back to alleged assaults that occurred several years earlier.

Burgoyne is charged with three counts of sexual assault, two counts of forcible confinement, and three counts of administering a stupefying substance to overcome resistance to sexual assault.

Gordon faces the exact same charges plus a fourth charge of sexual assault, where it’s alleged one of the victims was assaulted twice.

Gordon and Burgoyne have been released according to terms of a recognizance order.

Gordon and Burgoyne have been involved in a six-year civil dispute, over their appearance in a racy online video that showed them in consensual sex acts with another woman.

Justice officials suspended Gordon and Burgoyne without pay in December 2006 when they learned of the video. Gordon and Burgoyne, who have been living common-law for several years, got their jobs back in early 2007.

A Justice department spokesman would not comment on the couple’s employment status with the Manitoba sheriff’s office, stating that was an internal, confidential matter.
