Two suspects sought after indecent acts committed
For the second day in a row, Winnipeg police are looking for suspects who exposed themselves to women and in one case attacking a woman.
The first incident happened just after midnight Sunday morning in the 700 block of William Avenue, adjacent to the Health Sciences Centre complex. The second incident happened late Monday afternoon on Barber Street in North Point Douglas.
"There have been a lot of these incidents lately," WPS spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen said. "Unfortunately, there are individuals in our community … engaging in this type of activity."
Michalyshen said the incidents are not harmless and there is the potential for escalation to violence, as happened on William Street early Sunday morning.
"It is a big deal … because there is always that possibility that individuals willing to do this, things could escalate and contact can be made and things can go from bad to worse."
In the Sunday morning incident on William, a 22-year-old woman and her friend were walking to a parking lot when they were approached by an unknown man. The suspect exposed himself and then, without provocation, began assaulting the 22-year-old woman. He fled the area on foot.
The woman received minor injuries.
In the Monday afternoon incident on Barber Street, a 21-year-old woman was walking in the area when she was approached by a man who asked her for directions. The man approached the woman a second time, engaging her in conversation and then went to a nearby residence. The man returned a third time, exposing himself and performing an indecent act before fleeing the area on foot.
The suspect from the William incident is described as Aboriginal in appearance, with a thin build, 16-17 years of age, clean shaven, having visible tattoos or scars.
The suspect from the Barber incident is described as Asian in appearance, in his mid-20s, about 5’8"-5’9" tall, a medium to heavy build, clean shaven, short black hair, wearing a black baseball cap, dark jeans and a white t-shirt.
