Two women face rare charges of harbouring alleged murderer

  • Print

Winnipeg police have arrested two women with helping to harbour a fugitive who was being sought in a murder investigation.

Laura Ashley Jessica Asham and Danielle Jane Raven are facing the rare charges of accessory after the fact to murder. None of the allegations have been proven and they are presumed innocent.

Asham and Raven are accused of helping Morgan Van Bone avoid arrest between Mar. 26 and May 8, according to court documents. No other details are provided.

Police arrested Van Bone, 19, on May 8 at a residence in the 1800 block of Elgin Avenue West. He has been charged with first-degree murder for a gangland-style slaying in a city restaurant.

William Edward Moar, 24, was gunned down at Johnny G's on Main Street on Feb. 15 in a killing justice sources say was tied to disputes between rival gang members.

Several witnesses in the restaurant at the time said a man dressed in black entered the bar shortly before 2 a.m. and fired two shots. The first, missing Moar, almost hit an employee behind the bar. The second struck Moar in the head.

Two other men have also been charged in the slaying. Akech Dut Ajak, 22, and a 15-year-old boy are both charged with first-degree murder.
