Winnipeg has gone through enormous downtown growth in the last eight years not seen since the 1920s, the Unversity of Winnipeg declared today.
The university’s Institute of Urban Studies unveiled a report this morning which said that since 2005, the downtown has enjoyed 126 projects worth from $500,000 to hundreds of millions of dollars.
Much of that came from the private sector, said IUS director Jino Distasio.
He said that having more than 20,000 students downtown is the economic driver of growth, whose seeds were sewn three decades ago by the Core Area Initiative.
