Annette Trimbee will be the seventh president of the University of Winnipeg.
Trimbee is Métis and grew up in Transcona. She has an undergraduate degree from U of W, a master's from University of Manitoba, and a PhD from McMaster University.
Her academic research has focused on environmental issues, particularly the health of lakes.
Trimbee has also held senior positions in the Alberta government, including deputy minister of advanced education and technology.
She succeeds Lloyd Axworthy, who retires Friday.
