Underwood helps Countryfest go over the top
The record sellout was thanks to the 2013 lineup but even organizers of Dauphin's Countryfest were a little surprised.
American Idol-gone-platinum superstar Carrie Underwood along with country stars Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley and bands like the Florida Georgia Line are headlining next summer’s Countryfest.
Fans rushed to snap up weekend passes Monday when tickets went on sale.
By Monday evening Countryfest was sold out.
"They went on sale at 9 and we’d sold out by 7, What’s that?" Countryfest producer Rob Waloschuk said.
Ten hours, Rob.
"Usually we sell out, but doing it so quickly, is a bit of a surprise," he said.
Of course, it helps to have the best lineup they've scored in years, Waloschuk said.
The festival goes from June 27-30, 2013.
Fans still have a chance to buy day passes for $77. It was the special price weekend passes that sold out.
The festival site, hosts about 14,000 fans every year.
Asked how he scored the headliners on next summer’s marquee, Waloschuk said he’s been working with Underwood’s people for the last couple of years. And he’s been watching Bryan’s star rise and managed to get him just as he was hitting new heights. As for Florida Georgia Line, that’s a band with legs.
"Sometimes you just get plain lucky in this industry," the producer said.
