The province is supporting the Vehicle Technology Centre with a $500,000 grant to help fund innovation in an industry that now represents about $2 billion in annual revenue for Manitoba companies.
The new funding was announced today at New Flyer Industries, the largest urban bus manufacturer in North America. It will ensure on-going support towards the creation of world-class operations in the province.
The Vehicle Technology Centre is helping New Flyer develop an all-electric, battery-powered transit bus that it is working on with a consortium of suppliers including Manitoba Hydro and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Red River College.
Manitoba is home to two of the largest bus manufacturers in North America, the largest fire truck company and the only tractor manufacturer in the country.
The Vehicle Technology Centre is a non-profit entity formed in 2002. In the past it had been funded under the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement.
