Vigils planned to remember missing and murdered women

Events are planned across the province Thursday to give Manitobans the opportunity to remember Canadian women who are missing or murdered.
The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs has published a list of events around the province to mark the day.
The Native Women’s Association of Canada first sponsored vigils that have now become a national tradition. Sisters in Spirit was launched seven years ago to recognize the hundreds of aboriginal women who have gone missing or been murdered in Canada.
Events taking place across Manitoba on Oct. 4:
Winnipeg
Sisters in Spirit candlelight vigil @ 7 p.m., at the fountain behind the Manitoba Legislature.
Barren Lands First Nation
Moment of Silence/Sisters in Spirit candlelight vigil: 10 a.m.
Moment of Silence/ Sisters in Spirit candlelight vigil & gospel night at 7 p.m.
Canupawakpa Dakota Nation
Walk & Information session: noon (Health Services)
Fisher River Cree Nation
Sisters in Spirit candlelight vigil and drum ceremony: 7 p.m.
Mathias Colomb Cree Nation
Sisters in Spirit candlelight vigil & walk: 7 p.m.
Tataskweyak Cree Nation
Candlelight vigil, 11 a.m. (Schools participating)
Thompson
Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) Sisters in Spirit candlelight vigil: 6 p.m.
Pimicikamak Cree Nation & Norway House Cree Nation
Monster Bingo: 1 p.m. (via radio)
Benefit concert: 7 p.m. (via television/radio)
Both events are tentative.
