High school students and community leaders are coming together at the Manitoba Legislature today in observance of the National Day of Mourning.
Students from Tec Voc High School, along with Premier Greg Selinger and Minister of Family Service and Labour Jennifer Howard, are scheduled to participate in a "Leaders' Walk" to mark the Day of Mourning event. Representatives from the Workers Compensation Board and from SAFE Workers of Tomorrow will also be in attendance.
The walk starts at noon from the Workers Compensation Board (333 Broadway Ave.) and will make its way to the Legislature. A small event is to be held once the march ends.
The National Day of Mourning was started by Canadian labour activists in the 1980s to honour workers killed or injured on the job. The day is recognized by more than 100 countries around the world.
