  • Print

The Mounties are looking for a Pukatawagan resident facing impaired driving charges in the death of a woman in an off-road accident in the northern Cree First Nation earlier this week.

The RCMP in the First Nation’s detachment said today they are looking for Cameron Rocky Caribou, 31. He goes by the name Rocky.

A 22-year-old Pukatawagan woman was killed Sunday when she fell off the back of a snowmobile and was hit by a quad travelling behind her, RCMP say.

Pukatawagan RCMP were notified by the nursing station Sunday evening about the incident.

The woman, whose name was not released, was with a group travelling through the community about 200 kilometres north of The Pas.

The woman was taken to the nursing station where she was pronounced dead. RCMP said she was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.

RCMP said speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.

Caribou is wanted on a warrant to face charges of Impaired Driving Causing Death and Failure to Stop At Scene of Accident.

RCMP described Caribou as about 6-foot-2 tall and about 280 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information as to Caribou’s whereabouts is asked to call your local RCMP detachment, police agency or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.manitobacrimestoppers.com, or text "TIPMAN" plus your message to Crimes (274637).
