Weekly earnings up, but Manitoba near the bottom in Canada

Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Manitoba was $840.07 in October, up 1.0 per cent from September and up 4.1 per cent year over year according to a report released this morning by Statistics Canada.

Manitoba’s weekly earnings growth outpaced the national average growth rate of 0.9 per cent from September to October and 2.8 per cent year-over-year. The national average weekly earnings were $909 in October.

But weekly earnings in Manitoba are still near the bottom of the pack, bettering only PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec.

When it comes to changes in the number of employees, Manitoba almost matched the national scenario. Total non-farm payroll employment in Manitoba declined 0.2 per cent between September and October, compared to a 0.1 per cent decline nationally and year-over-year employment was up 1.9 per cent in Manitoba compared to a 1.8 pert cent year-over-year increase nationally.
