Wind alert issued for Manitoba's major lakes

A wind alert has been issued for Manitoba’s big lakes, with shoreline ice pileups and flooding possible.

Changing ice conditions make it difficult to pinpoint any single area or community, Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation's provincial flood forecast centre said in a news release.

Environment Canada says west winds gusting to 80 kilometres per hour are forecast on Lake Manitoba today. On Lake Winnipeg’s south basin basin, southwest winds up to 70 km-hour are forecast. On Lake Winnipegosis, winds will be shifting to northwest and gusting up to 60 km-hour today.
