VIRDEN, Man. – As the 2014 provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts revs up for its playoff battles today and Sunday, Curl Manitoba announced that Winkler would host the women’s curling championship the next time around.

Though details still have to be finalized, Curl Manitoba and the Winkler Curling Club made an "agreement in principle" to hold the event at the Winkler Centennial Arena between Jan. 21 and 25, 2015. The arena has already passed technical muster by Curl Manitoba’s ice technician, Greg Ewasko.

Right now, Winkler sport leaders are working on the Manitoba Winter Games that are slated to be held in Morden, Stanley and Winkler, so host committee chairs have not yet been named. "It is a busy time in our community with the Winter Games approaching, but when the opportunity came up, it was too good to pass up," Winkler Curling Club president Brent Haney said in a statement.

The 2015 Scotties will be the first arena curling championship held in Winkler.
