Winnipeg expected to be named host of 2017 Canada Games Friday

  • Print

It looks like Winnipeg will welcome Canada's best summer athletes to town in 2017.

Canada Games organizers will announce the winning city at a press conference on Friday at The Forks at 1 p.m.

Premier Greg Selinger will join Tom Quinn, chairman of the Canada Games Council, Sue Hylland, president and CEO of the Canada Games Council and Catriona Le May Doan, a former Canadian Olympic speedskating gold-medallist who participated in one Canada Summer Games and two Canada Winter Games.

Organizers are tight-lipped about the winning bid but officials with a large sporting or cultural event aren't in the habit of holding press conferences in one city to announce the event is going somewhere else.
