Third person dies after head-on highway collision

A third person has died as the result of a head-on collision on Highway 3 near Sanford early Wednesday.

A 20-year-old woman from Sanford died in hospital, RCMP said this afternoon. Also killed in the collision were a 21-year-old Winnipeg woman and a 64-year-old Sanford man.

The Sanford man, who was the lone occupant of a Nissan pick-up truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. The women who died were among three people in a Chrysler Sebring who were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The southbound Sebring and the northbound pick-up truck collided on Highway 3 at 3 a.m. Wednesday, RCMP said.

An RCMP spokesman said the investigation is continuing, but the early indication is that the Sebring crossed the line and entered the northbound lane.

Police are not releasing the crash victims' names.
