About 3,500 people gathered, wearing red and white, at the Manitoba legislature today to once again form a "living flag."
The participants were part of the third annual Living Flag event, which sees residents of different Canadian cities compete to form the flag with the highest number of people. The turnout this year should be enough to crown Winnipeg as the top city for another year, according to a release by Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, which organized the event.
"We were blown away by the enthusiasm and spirit of Winnipeggers who came out today," said Stephano Grande, executive director of the Downtown BIZ.
He said some participants came out as early as 5:50 a.m.
This is the third year Winnipeg has participated in the Living Flag event. Last year, a photo of the Winnipeg flag was chosen to be featured on a Canada Post stamp.
