Winnipeg’s Furlan eliminated from Over the Rainbow contest

It’s the end of the (yellow brick) road for Colleen Furlan.

The 19-year-old Winnipegger was eliminated from the CBC reality-competition series Over the Rainbow on Monday night, one week shy of the series finale that will pick the star of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s upcoming Toronto stage production of The Wizard of Oz.

Furlan and Kitchener, Ont., native AJ Bridel were the show’s bottom two vote-getters after Sunday’s performances, forcing them into a sing-off in Monday’s results show. In the end, judges Arlene Phillips, Louise Pitre and Thom Allison opted to save Bridel and send Furlan home.

The remaining three finalists — Bridel, Danielle Wade of La Salle, Ont., and Stephanie La Rochelle of Ottawa — will face off in the final performance episode this Sunday. The winner of the role of Dorothy, as determined by viewers’ votes, will be announced in Monday’s series finale.
