Woman arrested after early-morning knife attack

A woman has been arrested in connection with an assault with a knife that took place early Monday morning.

According to police, patrolling officers witnessed a fight between two women in the area of Sargent Avenue and Victor Street.

Investigations revealed that a 36-year-old woman assaulted a 34-year-old woman in an unprovoked attack. When the victim was trying to stand after the initial blow, the 36-year-old suspect produced a knife and continued to attack her.

Division 11 Uniform Patrol members arrested and took the suspect into custody. She is facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and breach of probation. She was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

The victim is in stable condition.
