Woman faces three charges of attempted murder in city rooming house fire
A Winnipeg woman has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and arson following a fire at a North End rooming house Sunday night.
Firefighters were called to the fire in the 300-block of Magnus Avenue at about 10 p.m. Sunday. Seven people in the structure escaped without injury, police said.
A suspect was arrested at the scene, WPS spokesman Const. Eric Hofley said this morning.
Hofley said a woman targeted a suite in the rooming house where she knew at least one of the three people in the suite.
Charges of arson, disregard for human life, were laid in regards to the other four people in the rooming house.
Louise Joan Blyth, 28, is also charged with possession of incendiary material. She remains in custody.
Hofley would not disclose if police know the motive for the fire.
Damage estimate to the building is about $15,000.
