Woman sexually assaulted in West End

Police are investigating a serious sexual assault that occurred Sunday morning in the West End.

Police say a 25-year-old woman was walking in the area of Beverly Street and Sargent Avenue at about 2 a.m. when she was approached by an unknown male who brandished a weapon, sexually assaulted her, then fled.

The victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

Police described the attack as a "serious sexual assault."

The suspect is described as aboriginal in appearance, about 30 years old, 6-feet tall with short black hair and a heavy build.

The sex crime unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the unit at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
