  • Print

A Winnipeg woman was sexually assaulted early Sunday morning in the stairwell of an apartment block on Mayfair Avenue, police say.

The 26-year-old woman was in the stairwell between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. when a man confronted her, pushed her against a wall and sexually assaulted her.

The victim managed to push him away and began screaming, and the suspect fled the building.

An investigation is continuing by members of the Winnipeg Police Service sex crimes unit.

A composite sketch of the suspect is being done.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, about 5-foot-9, with a medium build, dark eyes and short, dark hair.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204 786-TIPS (8477).
