Women's equality rated C+ in Manitoba

Manitoba is a steady student when it comes to women's equality, one organization announced today - but needs to show improvement.
Two years after releasing its first report card on Manitoba's progress towards equal opportunities for women, provincial group UNPAC celebrated International Women's Day by releasing its second report at the legislature.
The grade this time around: C+, the same as it stood in 2010.
In some areas, Manitoba has become a better place for women, the report card said, citing the province's 2011 Women's Health Strategy as an example of initiatives that bumped health care from a B in 2010 to an A today.
But in other areas, the province has slid back in representing women's voices equally. The percentage of women in provincial cabinet dropped from it's record of 42 per cent to 37 per cent today. And the number of women in government also dropped, from almost 32 per cent to 28 per cent.
"In its fourth majority term we are looking for leadership from the government of Manitoba," UNPAC wrote in the report card.
