A man in his early 20s was accidently injured by electricity near Portage la Prairie this morning and transported by STARS air ambulance helicopter to Winnipeg in unstable condition.
The incident occurred about five kilometres west of Portage when a dump-truck box accidentally struck a hydro wire. The driver of the truck was not injured, but a man who was touching a piece of equipment that was attached to the truck was injured.
The Trans-Canada was temporarily closed while EMS technicians responded.
"It was very dangerous," said Portage fire department captain David Sproat. "It was a workplace accident, but they do happen."
The injured man was transported to the Health Sciences Centre. There was no immediate word of his condition.
