Wyatt endorses Tory Toet

Transcona Coun. Russ Wyatt, a card-carrying member of the Manitoba NDP has endorsed the federal Conservative candidate in Elmwood-Transcona.

Wyatt announced today he is supporting Lawrence Toet, who was one of three Transcona activists who led the fight against the OlyWest hog-processing plant in 2006.

In a statement, Wyatt said he's supporting Toet because of his support for the Plessis Road Underpass, which could be built with the support of all three levels of government.

"I believe Lawrence Toet's influence from within government will help make this project a reality and that's why today I have chosen to officially endorse Lawrence in this federal election," Wyatt said.

"I usually don't vote conservative, but in this election I will be, as we all need to send a loud message that our community counts."

NDP MP Jim Maloway, the incumbent in Elmwood-Transcona, also supports the project.

Ilona Niemczyk is running for the Liberal Party and Ellen Young is running for the Greens in the riding.
