They sing, they act, they write plays. And now they read -- fortunes that is.
They are the 10 local artists collectively known as the Winnipeg Tarot Company and they'll be soothsaying soon at a location near you in honour of Winnipeg's designation as the Cultural Capital of Canada 2010.
That's right. From Sept. 24 through Oct. 31, the likes of Weakerthans frontman John K. Samson, award-winning playwright Ian Ross and theatre veteran Maggie Nagle will travel throughout the city, offering tarot card readings -- using a reconception of the classic tarot deck that uses Winnipeg-specific symbology -- to folks in settings ranging from restaurants to seniors residences to public parks.

All the tales will be recorded and archived at the Winnipeg Arts Council, and a selection will be posted online each day.
City Stories with the Winnipeg Tarot Co. was conceived by local performance artists Lorri Millan and Shawna Dempsey as a creative way to coax Winnipeggers to share their stories about living in our fair burg.
Other tarot readers include bandleader Rodrigo Munoz, visual artist Sandee Moore, actor Ross McMillan, writer Charles Leblanc, playwright Carolyn Gray and musician Christine Fellows.
