ATTENTION MARRIED WOMEN: We interrupt today's regularly scheduled weekend weather forecast for the following urgent and completely true medical announcement...

Scientists at the Canadian Institute for Alarming Medical Discoveries announced today groundbreaking research has conclusively proven that doing "just a little yardwork" on warm, sunny days in the fall poses a serious health risk to persons of the male gender in the sense it may cause them to spontaneously burst into flames.

In a related finding, the institute announced outdoor activities such as sitting around the patio enjoying a few cold ones, grilling up burgers and dogs for the boys, or attending football games where beer is served do not pose any particular hazard and may, in fact, contribute to the general health and well-being of the typical male.

Getting back to our regularly scheduled forecast, Environment Canada says we can look forward to sun, sun and more sun FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK! Seriously, check out the weather office's website and the forecast for the next six days is represented by tiny, jolly-looking cartoon-style suns.

Today's forecast calls for, you guessed it, sunny skies with winds from the west at 30 km/h, becoming light late in the day. The daytime high will hit 10 C, up from the normal high of 1 C at this time of year. Sunday's high will be (yikes!) 9 C.

The outlook for the rest of the week is EXACTLY THE SAME! Winnipeggers can expect sunny skies and above-normal temperatures every day through Thursday. On Tuesday, the mercury will hit 11 C.

You can slather on some sunscreen and check out the Manitoba Art Expo today and Sunday at Assiniboia Downs. Admission is $6, children are free. Or put on a floppy beret and take in the In Plain View Artists Open Studios self-guided tours from noon to 5 p.m.

today and Sunday. Visit www.inplainviewwinnipeg. com for a list of participating studios.

You can avoid the heat entirely by heading down to MTS Centre today and Sunday for the Manito Ahbee festival featuring an international competition powwow and indigenous marketplace and trade show.

Leading health experts also recommend you take a moment today to sit at your computer and send me an email bid (at doug.speirs@freepress.mb.ca) for a one-of-akind ceramic bowl my dogs decorated for Winnipeg Harvest's fundraiser, the Empty Bowl Celebrity Auction. (To see it in colour, just visit winnipegfreepress.com) The high bid right now stands at $100, but I know we can do better. Look, you get an actual work of art, a copy of my book and the food bank gets all the money. Do it now!
