The newest polar bear at the Assiniboine Park Zoo finally has a name.
The zoo announced the 11-month-old female cub will be known as Aurora. According to officials, the name was chosen by Grade 2 students Avery Finlay and Aurura McDonald following a naming contest held at Duke of Marlborough School in Churchill.
"The students at the Duke of Marlborough also named Storm, the three-year-old male bear that recently came to the Zoo from Churchill. It was such a wonderful experience for everyone involved, it only made sense to have them select the name for the newest cub, as well," Dr. Brian Joseph, zoological director, offered in a statement.
Aurora, an orphaned cub that was discovered near the Churchill airport, arrived to the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre (IPBCC) late last month.
