Actress Sophie Turner drops hints on 'Game of Thrones' season 3
TORONTO - Fans of George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels probably think they have a good idea of what's in store for young Sansa Stark in the "Game of Thrones" third season.
And actress Sophie Turner has hinted that they might be right.
In an interview to promote Tuesday's DVD/Blu-ray release of the show's second season, Turner divulged a few hints about the new season, which premieres March 31 on HBO Canada (warning, potential spoilers ahead).
"I can tell you that Sansa kind of goes through this little roller coaster on season 3 emotionally, she kind of gets her hopes up a little at times and they kind of get crushed — as per (usual) pretty much, nothing much different," says Turner, who turns 17 later this week, with a laugh.
"It's very emotionally testing for Sansa this season."
The third season of the show is expected to encompass part of Martin's "A Storm of Swords" novel, the third book in his series, which currently stands at five titles with two more yet to come.
Turner confirmed that she does share a lot of screen time with Peter Dinklage's character Tyrion Lannister, as diehard fans had been expecting.
"Peter's such a cool guy, he's amazing to act alongside with and I think I've been really lucky in terms of having worked with Sean Bean closely — him being my dad, (Ned Stark) — and now Peter, I'm very lucky getting to work in scenes with these guys because they're big successful actors," says Turner.
She praises Dinklage for the levity he brings to the dark fantasy series filled with death and brutality.
"Peter's comedic timing is amazing. A lot of people think they can play a role like that quite easily but it definitely takes comedic timing and not many actors can do that — I definitely can't," she says.
The show's producers have also been meting out little teasers about the new season a few weeks out from its premiere.
"This is the season that (D. B. Weiss) and I have been anticipating from the very beginning," says co-creator and showrunner David Benioff in a promotional preview uploaded to the web.
"This is the rise and fall season because there are so many characters who come into the season with power of some kind who lose everything, and other characters who enter with nothing and achieve great power."
"It's still very much about power and very much about family," adds Weiss. "I think that this is a season of tremendous reversals of fortune, I think you will be pleasantly surprised and horrified in equal measure."
