HOME is where the Herd is.
The University of Manitoba Bisons thundered over the Alberta Golden Bears 60-18 Saturday in Edmonton to secure a playoff date next week at Investors Group Field. Manitoba finishes the Canada West Conference season in second place at 5-3 and will host the 5-3 Saskatchewan Huskies Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The Bears go into winter hibernation after sleepwalking through a second consecutive 0-8 campaign.
The 8-0 Calgary Dinosaurs will host the 4-4 UBC Thunderbirds in the other Canada West semifinal the same night.
"We are very proud to secure second place and now host a playoff game in the first season of Investors Group Field," said head Bisons coach Brian Dobie after Saturday's win. "The first year of a stadium comes only once and it was a goal of ours to be able to play a post-season game at home this season."
It will be the third meeting of the season between the two teams. Manitoba won 33-26 in Saskatoon on Oct. 18 and lost 36-34 at home on Sept. 7.
Ticket prices will be $17 for adults and $10 for students/seniors. Children aged six and under are free. Tickets are available through ticketmaster.ca and a Ticketmaster ticketing surcharge will apply. Seating will be general admission.
The Bisons last hosted a playoff game in their 2007 Vanier Cup winning season.
