Bob Axworthy throws his hat into ring as Liberal candidate

BOB Axworthy is looking to carry the family torch in politics.

The Manitoba Liberals said Tuesday Bob Axworthy will run as the Manitoba Liberal candidate in the Fort Whyte byelection.

The Liberals plan to officially announce his candidacy Wednesday, they said in a news release.

Axworthy's eldest brother, Lloyd, was a federal Liberal cabinet minister and MP and is currently president of the University of Winnipeg. Bob Axworthy's older brother, Tom, was an adviser and speechwriter for former prime minister Pierre Trudeau.

The byelection will be held on Sept. 4. Newly chosen Progressive Conservative Leader Brian Pallister is in the running along with NDP candidate Brandy Schmidt.
