NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. - A father and son who went snowboarding out of bounds and had to be rescued at a North Vancouver mountain resort on Dec. 29 have been billed for the effort.
North Shore Search and Rescue had to send a six-person team to get the pair out of what search manager Tim Jones called a "high risk situation."
The team had to get the two up an almost vertical slope as it literally collapsed behind them.
Chris Dagenais, a spokesman for Grouse Mountain, won't disclose the amount of the invoice but says it will cover the costs of the rescue.
He says every year people continue to get stuck after going out of bounds and sending them a bill will add a further deterrent.
Dagenais says people should be respecting the boundaries for their own safety, but now hopefully the financial penalty will help discourage people from putting other lives at risk.
