WHITE RIVER, Ont. - Canadian Pacific says an oil leak from a freight train that derailed in a remote stretch of northwestern Ontario today has been contained and poses no risk to the public.
Spokesman Ed Greenberg says two of the 20 or so cars that came off the tracks near the community of White River contained light sweet crude that temporarily leaked.
He says it's believed about four barrels escaped and cleanup procedures are underway.
It's unclear at this time what caused the eastbound train to derail just before 8 a.m. about halfway between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.
Both CP (TSX:CP) and the Transportation Safety Board say they are investigating.
