eBay inducts Winnipegger into hall of fame

WINNIPEG — Live long and prosper... and gather as much Star-Trek memorabilia as possible.

That's long been the mantra of Winnipegger Gordon Gold, a police officer and Star Trek diehard who was inducted into the eBay Canada Hall of Fame today. Gold, a lifelong fan of the iconic 1960s television series starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, was one of 10 Canadians/organizations inducted into the eBay Hall of Fame today.

How dedicated is Gold to his Star Trek collection?

Well, he's amassed so much Trekkie stuff he's had to rent a separate storage facility to house all his finds. Recently, he completed his Master Replica Collection after discovering a piece he found on eBay.

Gold also collects Flash (DC Comic) and Silver Surfer (Marvel Comics) memorabilia. No word on whether he'll need another separate storage facility to house that collection.

eBay is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Canada this month and, as part of the celebrations, has created its hall of fame to 'recognize Canadians who exemplifying eBay's community values while browsing, bidding, buying and selling on the site.' As well, the company is launching its 'Free The Children' charity auction that will award $5,000 in contest prizes including, among other things, two pairs of tickets to see Justin Bieber in Toronto and VIP packages to the finale of 'So You Think You Can Dance Canada', the MuchMusic Video Awards and a trip for two to Kenya.

Since 2000 Canadians have bought more than $7 billion in on-line transactions on eBay.
